1st Ward Commissioner
Steve D'Emilio

Steve D'Emilio is a dedicated public servant. A native of South Philadelphia who chose Havertown as the community to raise his family. From the moment Steve moved to Havertown, he became an active advocate to preserve the character of our community. He served on the Westgate Hills Civic Association Board and later joined the Township Zoning Board. After the tragic events of September 11, his respect for the first responders in New York moved him to attend the Montgomery County Fire Academy. Upon successful completion of his training, he earned the designation of National Fighter 1a Firefighter/First Responder and then served with the Manoa Fire Company in Havertown; where he continues to volunteer and presently serves on the Fire company board of directors and is presently the President of the Fire Company.

Steve is a graduate of Neumann University where he earned Cum Laude honors.

Steve believes preserving our community's character and keeping Havertown the great place to live and raise a family - that led him to choose Havertown to reside and raise his own family is first and foremost the motivating factor that drives him to continue to serve the residents of the 1st ward and Haverford Township. Steve has always stated: "The reason I continue to serve the residents of the Township is so that I can make a meaningful, positive contribution to preserve and improve our quality of life.

Every resident deserves the opportunity to express their concerns and views - which is why I hold regular town hall meetings with residents and Township officials" that have become very popular. Furthermore, "Political party affiliation is not a factor in any of my governing decisions"

Just elected to his Fifth term as the 1st Ward Commissioner, Steve appreciates the trust placed in him by the residents and attributes his success to the unwavering support for his public advocacy of the resident's issues and by working side by side with neighbors and the civic association. Many successful programs have been enacted under his stewardship and he believes the support of the residents in the community has helped him be successful in serving as 1st Ward Commissioner.

I knew him to be helpful, honest, and forthright, always ready to take a call or respond to an email. Andy had a way of connecting with the people and earning their trust instantly. I believe Andy always did what he thought was right for the people for Haverford - regardless of party affiliations. I am honored to serve in this role and will do my best over the next six months to uphold all the good Andy did and continue to do what is right for the people of Haverford and the 5th Ward"

WW Image
9th Ward Commissioner
William F. Wechsler

Bill Wechsler has resided in the 9th Ward of the township for the last 30 years. He is married to Maribeth Bohs Wechsler and is the proud father of four daughters and grandfather to 8 grandchildren, so far.

Bill graduated from the United States Military Academy, at West Point in 1976, after attending St. Dorothy School and St. Joseph's Prep. He is an active member of the Manoa Fire Company and continues to serve as a Firefighter and Driver. He has responded to over 2900 fire and ambulance calls over the last 19 years.

Bill’s goal is to serve the residents of the 9th ward effectively and honestly. “Haverford Township is a great place to live, raise a family and my consistent desire is to continue to make our township one of America's Best Hometowns” has been the hallmark of Bill’s service as Commissioner since 2008. We continue to seek business growth in the township so that we can bring increased tax revenue to balance out the property taxes paid by homeowners. I am hoping too that we can undertake even more initiatives to attract business to our community and continue a strong economic development program with local government support and private sector initiatives.

As commissioner, Bill is taking steps to ensure that Haverford Township is at the forefront of meeting its stated environmental goals of 100% clean renewable electricity by 2035 and 100% renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2050. Now that we have set the goals, we must continue efforts to accomplish them. We must continue to budget for the technology and items necessary to meet these environmental goals and preserve our community for the generations to come. As your commissioner, I have supported street light conversion to LED lights, purchasing propane fueled vehicles for public works, and increasing green energy use at the Skatium and CREC Facility.

In 2016 and 2017, the township took steps to replace our antiquated Police Station and Township Building. A new Municipal Building was constructed near the old police station with no impact on playing fields and providing increased parking after its completion. In 2018, the building went in full operation to serve the community. I have committed to improving our Township Library. We will have to decide between a renovation in place or building a new facility in the township. This is a major decision for 2020.
